Educational Resource Management Intern

Huliauapaʻa in collaboration with the Kamehameha Schools ʻEwa Region is excited to introduce the Puʻuloa Educational & Resource Management Development Program. This program will provide two interns a unique opportunity to work with Huliauapaʻa staff, non-profit organizations/ agencies that care for wahi kūpuna in Puʻuloa, and K-12 educations in the region. Participants will assist in the development of four digital ʻāina-based educational resources showcasing this special area. In addition to this, interns will also receive training from Huliauapaʻa staff and other professionals to learn about the history, moʻolelo and faces of Puʻuloa. This is a ten-month internship, which requires ten hours of work a week, and pays $15 an hour. For more information or questions please e-mail laakea@huliauapaa.org.
Program Participant Requirements:
  • ​Be a student at UH West Oʻahu (Full or Part-time)
  • Attend quarterly trainings
  • Aid in producing 1 mini project quarterly 
  • Willingness to learn
  • Desire to grow ʻāina, community, and lāhui
  • Able to provide own housing and transportation 
Program Participant Benefits:

Bio-Cultural  Intern

Huliauapaʻa is excited to announce the start of their AmeriCorps program, which is focused on building capacity of ʻāina stewarding non- profit organizations and non-profit agencies in Hawaiʻi to care for our beloved wahi kūpuna. The program will begin September 21,2020 and will run till August 20, 2021. This program spans a little over the course of 10-months, for a total of 900 hours of service. We are hiring 2 part-time positions for this site. Participants will work an average of 20--hours work week with a Huliauapaʻa Partner Host Site, Hui Malama Huleia. Participants will work to build capacity to care for wahi kūpuna at their Huliauapaʻa Partner Host Site. Participants will also receive quarterly training from Huliauapaʻa staff in place based resource management. ​For more information of question please e-mail dominique​@huliauapaa.org
Program Participant Requirements:
  • ​Be at least 17 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma
  • Willingness to learn
  • Desire to benefit ʻāina, community, and lāhui
  • Provide own housing and transportation on island 
  • Be eligible to work in Hawaiʻi
Program Participant Benefits:
  • Mentorship and training from partner site supervisor
  • Mentorship and training from Huliauapaʻa staff (including quarterly training and monthly check-ins)
  • $10,000 stipend
  • $3,097 Segal Educational Award
  • Medical Coverage
Program Participant Preferences:
  • Familiarity with Hawaiian Loko I’a
  • At least 1-year experience doing ‘āina work on Kauaʻi island and/or across Hawaiʻi
  • Community work experience in Huleʻia and/or on Kauaʻi island preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
