SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

Deadline to Apply:
June 31st, 2021

Purpose of the Scholarship

Wahi kūpuna refers to a physical site or landscape significant to Kānaka ʻŌiwi and is used to reassert indigenous Hawaiian perspectives and kuleana to these spaces. Wahi kūpuna hold special prominence for kānaka as they shape our identity,
inform and inspire our living values, traditions, and practices. They are the tangible links for which we maintain connections to the past and the generations yet to come. These spaces are imbued with mana (divine power) and meaning that
have forged an inseparable relationship with land.

Huliauapaʻa wants to support the next generation of wahi kūpuna stewards in Hawaiʻi working towards their degree by hosting a scholarship contest for undergraduate or graduate (either full-time or part-time) students to help lessen the financial burden of college. We are looking for outstanding students in college that are currently helping to grow their community through their work in Wahi Kūpuna Stewardship. We hope that these monies will support their learning as the next generation of leaders in Hawaiʻi.
